On the Family Day long weekend in February, 2011, I began to hemorrahge, which became worse and worse during the course of the weekend. By Sunday evening I decided to phone the on-call nurse at the local family clinic who advised me to either go to the emergency room at the hospital if I started to feel lightheaded or weak or to make an appointment to see a doctor at the clinic on Tuesday when the clinic would reopen.
After a brief discussion and external examination by the on call doctor, he recommended that I see a gynocologist. Although I was told that it could take as long as nine months to get a gynocological appointment in my city, I was contacted by a wonderful female gynocologist within two weeks of my visit to the clinic. She wanted to see me immediately.
After an in-depth conversation regarding my past medical history, an examination, PAP test and biopsy, she telephoned me two days later at around 8:30 in the evening and uttered those three little words you never want to hear. "You have cancer."
Yes, it's true. On April 25, 2011 it was confirmed that I was in stage 3b with cervical cancer. I was in shock.

I am not an athlete, so the odds of me taking part in a walk-a-thon is slim, nor am I well connected socially, therefore I have no idea how to even begin organizing an event for fundraising. What I do have is gratitude for the Juravinski Cancer Clinic and all of the wonderful doctors, nurses, technicians and support people who dedicate their lives to helping those of us who are fighting for our lives.
These dedicated people work exceptionally hard and are the most supportive, nurturing, empathetic professionals I've ever come across. If you have ever had anyone in your family or amongst your friends who has taken up the battle for survival from this incidious disease, you know how important it is to support treatment and find the cure.
Therefore, in an effort to give back and support the important work they do, I have set up this blog in an effort to raise a donation toward Womens' Cancer Research, with a little help from the internet community. Your contribution of as little as $1.00 can make a difference.
Won't you please join me in making a donation to this important cause? I thank you all in advance and will keep you posted as to how we're progressing over the next few weeks.

Sorry to hear of your report! Don't rule out the walk, it isn't that hard. Hope you feel better!
